Nals and Tess
are a creative, comedic duo that work with high energy, high stakes, grounded characters that come together in a complete theatrical piece in all story forms: theatre, film and television and live shows. The duo teams up to create, produce, and act in their projects with Nalini Sharma writing and Tessa VonderHaar directing.
Their goal is to create entertaining content that makes their audience laugh and move them emotionally. Before film making, they were audience favorites for years at comedy theaters in Los Angeles such as UCB, The Second City, IO West, The Pack Theatre and in their nation wide sketch comedy tours. Their live act, A funny thing happened on our way to India was a sold out hit.
Nalini is an actor, writer and comedian based in Los Angeles. Before stomping the grounds of comedy, Nalini was seriously studying science. Science thanks her everyday for switching paths. She began her career in acting and writing in NYC where she appeared in several award winning Off-Broadway/Regional productions. She was a company member at the Obie Award winning Flea Theater and The TE'A Project where she co-wrote the dark, humorous play, Home Front : a theatrical piece about veterans returning home from Iraq and Afghanistan wars opening dialogue of the war experience to audiences of veteran and civilian communities alike. Upon moving to Los Angeles, she was hand selected by the legendary Steve Martin for his comedy writing Masterclass. She wrote Birdie & Blanche a series that was a Finalist for 2016 Sundance New Voices Lab. She wrote the pilot episode on a comedy series, Journey to 1M, with Studio 71 along with Emmy award winning writer, Mike Upchurch. Tessa is a Los Angeles based actor, director, comedian, and producer. She’d like any well-behaved Midwestern who training classically in theatre, received a BFA in Musical Theatre, then got the hell outta there. Shortly after, she found her true love-- comedy. Training and performing at Second City Hollywood, she got her start directing and writing. You may have seen her acting in front of the camera on Showtime's Shameless, ABC's The Middle, seen her in films such as Followed (Timur Bekmambetov), or heard her voicing a character in Netflix’s Motown Magic. Tessa has since embarked on her career behind the camera. She has directed several comically dark web series such as Harry, the heart-breakingly hilarious tale of a Los Angeles clown and Baes Welcome, an online queer Broadcity. Tessa makes her directorial debut in film with Wolf.
She is represented by Clear Talent Group and Gregg Edwards Mgmt.
